FIP killed almost every cat it touched. The textbooks said fatal. Most Indian clinics still say it out loud, in the room, to the person holding the carrier.

PCR is a real tool — on the right sample. A positive on effusion or a mesenteric lymph node aspirate is highly specific. On blood, it misleads, and it's a leading cause of misdiagnosis in India.
Ask what else is on the differential. Lymphoma and pyothorax look a lot like this.Wet FIP moves fast. The gap between "something's off" and a cat in crisis can be short. Get the workup started. Find a vet who has treated FIP before.
